In this new post I would like to tell you a little more about my recent and unforgettable experience at the 66th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival or Zinemaldia, with the film blog El circulo del fotograma and my good friend Amaia García. Of course, I recommend that you visit her interesting blog (written in Spanish) to stay up to date in films and series. I have lived an intense week full of fims, photocalls and press conferences … all an addiction!

A film festival in an incomparable setting

Cannes, Berlin, Venice … and why not San Sebastian! The zinemaldia is also an A class film festival fulfilling the requirements of the FIAPF, as well as being one of the oldest film festivals in the world. But what has this festival that makes it so unique?

• Incomparable setting
  San Sebastian, with its stunning bay, becomes the perfect place to enjoy a festival. What can be better than going from the cinema to the beach and from the beach to the cinema in just a few minutes.
• Citizen participation
  Endless queues at the entrance of cinemas and not just journalists, critics or people related to the industry…the Zinemaldia moves the people of San Sebastian and cinephiles from different places. The Kursaal, the Victoria Eugenia Theater, the Cines Principe and the Principal Theater become your second home for a few days.
• A red carpet full of celebrities
  This year we had 3 Donostia awards: Judi Dench, Danny DeVito and Hirokazu Kore-eda. In addition, we counted with the presence of international stars such as Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Juliette Binoche, Robert Pattinson and Timothée Chalamet.
• Capital of gastronomy
  San Sebastian has already a good international reputation in the gastronomic world. So going for pintxos between film and film turns into a luxury complement.

Top 5 of my favourite films

During the 7 days of the festival  I had the chance to see 14 films, of which I would like to give you this top 5:

1. Roma
   The film by the director Alfonso Cuarón is an ode to Mexican women who, despite all the trouble, take care of their families.
2. Quién te cantará
   A famous singer will surprisingly need the help of one of her fans to save her musical career.
3. In fabric
   Bizarre film by Peter Strickland. A horror film loaded with high doses of British humor. Its somehow psychedelic aesthetics makes you stick to the screen till the end.
4. Blind spot
   Intense long take that pushes the leading actors to the limit. Remarkable interpretation of Pia Tjelta who got the Silver Shell for the best actress.
5. Petra
   Drama, humor and unexpected twists. The film tells Petra’s life and her relationship with the cruel artist Jaume.

En esta nueva entrada os quiero contar un poco más sobre mi reciente e inolvidable experiencia en la 66ª edición del Festival de cine de San Sebastian o Zinemaldia, de la mano del blog de cine El circulo del fotograma y mi buena amiga Amaia García.  Por supuesto, os recomiendo que os paséis por su interesante blog para estar al día tanto en películas como series. He vivido una intensa semana llena de películas, photocalls y ruedas de prensa…toda una adicción!

Un festival de cine en un marco incomparable

Cannes, Berlín, Venecia…y por qué no San Sebastián! El zinemaldia también es un festival de cine de clase A cumpliendo los requisitos de la FIAPF, además de ser uno de los festivales de cine más antiguos del mundo. ¿Pero qué tiene este festival que lo hace tan único?

• Marco incomparable
  San Sebastián, con su magnífica bahía, se convierte en el lugar perfecto para disfrutar de un festival. Que mejor que ir del cine a la playa y de la playa al cine en tan solo unos minutos.
• Participación ciudadana
  Interminables colas a la entrada de los cines y no solo de periodistas, críticos o personas relacionadas con la industria…el Zinemaldi mueve a los donostiarras y a cinéfilos de diferentes lugares. El Kursaal, el Teatro Victoria Eugenia, los Cines Principe y el Teatro Principal se convierten en tu segunda casa durante unos días.
• Una alfombra roja llena de celebridades
  Este año hemos contado con 3 premios Donostia: Judi Dench, Danny DeVito y Hirokazu Kore-eda. Además, hemos contado con la presencia de estrellas internacionales de la talla de Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Juliette Binoche, Robert Pattinson y Timothée Chalamet.
• Capital de la gastronomía
  San Sebastián cuenta ya desde hace tiempo con una buena reputación internacional en el mundo gastronómico. Por lo que ir de pintxos entre peli y peli se convierte en un complemento de lujo.

Top 5 de películas preferidas

Durante los 7 días de festival tuve la oportunidad de ver 14 películas, de las cuales me gustaría dejaros este top 5:

1. Roma
   La película del cineasta Alfonso Cuarón es sobre todo una oda a las mujeres mexicanas que a pesar de todas las turbulencias sacan adelante a sus familias.
2. Quién te cantará
   Una famosa cantante necesitará sorprendentemente la ayuda de una de sus fans para retomar su carrera musical. 
3. In fabric
   Estrambótica película de Peter Strickland. Un film de terror cargado de altas dosis de humor británico. Su estética un tanto psicodélica hace que no te despegues de la pantalla ni un segundo.
4. Blind spot
   Intenso plano secuencia que lleva al límite a sus protagonistas. Destacar la interpretación de Pia Tjelta que consiguió la Concha de plata a la mejor actriz.
5. Petra
   Drama, humor y giros inesperados. La película relata la vida de Petra y su relación con el cruel artista Jaume.
