Hello!
It is being an endless summer in Berlin. More than a year already living here and it seems like I will stay longer. Despite the fact that I haven’t had much free time during the last months to get out of this absorbing city, I had the chance to take a short break in one of my favourite cities. The one that awoke my interest for the northern countries and languages.
Copenhagen catches you in its swirl of cobbled streets and colourful facades
The charm of the Danish city leaves nobody indifferent. The narrow streets are full of small cafés where you can feel a bit of «hygge«, shops to find items of the acclaimed Danish design and, of course, fast cyclists rushing to their destinations…a modern tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
At the same time, the city has a seaside atmosphere that will always captivate, above all, those of us who have grown up by the sea…
I would like to give you a few tips, you might find interesting when visiting the Danish capital city:
- First of all, where did I have the pleasure to stay? Very well-located next to the lakes, the Hotel Kong Arthur allows you to move around the city easily. I would remark the excellent breakfast buffet that will make you start the day with energy. Besides, next to the hotel is located the Torvehallernekbh market, where you can either find a wide range of products or satisfy your appetite with different kinds of gastronomy.
- Going for a walk to the central Nyhavn is almost compulsory. It might turn out to be a risky sport though, due to the big crowd that invades it everyday… so if you like photography and you want to capture the colourful canal, I recommend that you get up early to find a more charming Nyhavn.
- If you are interested in Danish design, I advise you to visit HAY and Illums Bolighus stores both situated in the Amagertorv square. In fact, from HAY House you can enjoy the beautiful views of the square and its elaborated pavement.
- The bohemian district of Christianshavn is the perfect place to chill. I got very impressed by the Christianshavn boat rental & Café, a boat cafe where to eat or drink something in the first line of the canal.
Moreover, not far from there, you can visit the Church of our Saviour. From its tower you can enjoy a different view of the city (yes, the ascent is not the easiest though). For more views of the city I won’t stop recommending the Christiansborg Palace and the Rundetaarn with a nice panorama over the old town or Indre by.
As ever I will be looking forward to your comments and opinions!
David
Hola!

Nice one. The next time you are in CPH, visit my hood Sluseholmen in The South Harbor. Contemporary architecture in a maritime setting, great for photography. Have a good one.

My husband has wonderful memories of Copenhagen. He was only 19 when he visited some 47 years ago. Sadly I’ve never been. This year we’re travelling to London. Maybe we can make it a priority for next year.
