Once again, for nine days, San Sebastián transformed into a city completely devoted to cinema. The San Sebastian International Film Festival Festival held its 74th edition with a programme that once again filled the streets and theaters with lovers of the seventh art.
The festival got off to a strong start with the opening gala at the Kursaal auditorium: Werner Herzog received the Donostia Award from Orlando Bloom, and the following day, Naomi Watts would also receive the honor, presented by Juan Antonio Bayona. Other international celebrities, such as Brad Pitt, Rami Malek, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons also walked the red carpet. After several days of movies and many hours in the theatres, it is time to take stock. And although choosing is always difficult, these are my five favourite films from this edition:Top 5 of this edition

- La bola negra
By Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, it was one of the films that moved me the most at this year’s festival. A story that travels through different eras to explore love, identity, and memory. The film ended up winning the Audience Award. - Tender loving care
Mike Leigh gives us a story about friendship, loneliness, and the importance of caring for others. It is a seemingly simple film, yet filled with small moments and characters that feel very real. It is no coincidence that it ended up winning the Golden Shell in this edition. - 5 minutos más
One of the big surprises of this edition, “5 minutos más” by Javier Ruiz Caldera blends comedy with a relationship crisis in a story where time begins to repeat itself in five-minute intervals. Javier Cámara won the Silver Shell for Best Supporting Performance for his outstanding work in the film. - Coward
Lukas Dhont returns to the Zinemaldia with a story set during World War I that explores fear, masculinity and, above all, love in the face of adversity. The film moves away from the traditional image of the emotionless soldier to focus on the relationship between its main characters, crafting a love story defined by desire and emotional fragility. - Club kid
The film takes us into the wild world of New York’s nightlife. Beneath the parties and excesses lies an unexpectedly tender story including responsibility and the possibility of change as main topics.
