The 72nd edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival has been full of stories that have once again moved its loyal audience. Cate Blanchett and Pedro Almodovar have won this year’s Donostia Award, but we have also had a red carpet full of international stars such as Tilda Swinton, Andrew Garfield, Monica Bellucci and Pamela Anderson.

From the 15 films I have been able to enjoy, I would like to share with you the ones I liked the most:

Top 5 of this edition

1. La habitación de al lado
   With his first film shot entirely in English, Pedro Almodovar brings us an emotional story based on the novel What are you going through by Sigrid Núñez. Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore shine in their performances alongside Almodovar’s aesthetic that always delights us.


2. La virgen roja
   This is perhaps the most powerful story based on true events at the festival. Hildegart Rodríguez stuns early 20th century Spain with her intellect and avant-garde ideas. The performances of Najwa Nimri and Alba Planas are outstanding.


3. Emilia Pérez
   Jacques Audiard’s acclaimed film, which previously triumphed at the Cannes Film Festival, arrives in the «Pearls section». The cast led by Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gómez and Karla Sofía Gascón brings us a surprising musical set in the world of drug dealing in Mexico.


4. Parthenope
   The young Parthenope conquers with her beauty wherever she goes. If we had already been captivated by ‘The hand of God’, Paolo Sorrentino returns to the Zinemaldi with a picturesque Italy that we always enjoy so much.


5. Marco
   Eduard Fernandez plays Enric Marco, a supposed survivor of a Nazi concentration camp who, eager for the spotlight, does everything possible to preserve and spread the historical memory of what happened. After 18 years of intense work, Jon Garaño and Aitor Arregi present us this surprising story based on real events.

La 72ª edición del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián ha estado repleta de historias que una vez más han dejado emocionado a su fiel público. Cate Blanchett y Pedro Almodovar han sido merecedores del Premio Donostia de esta edición, pero además, hemos tenido una alfombra roja llena de estrellas internacionales como Tilda Swinton, Andrew Garfield, Monica Bellucci y Pamela Anderson.

Otro año que consigo disfrutar de 15 largometrajes de los que destaco los siguientes:

1. La habitación de al lado
   Con su primera película rodada íntegramente en inglés, Pedro Almodovar nos trae una emotiva historia basada en la novela What are you going through de Sigrid Núñez. Tilda Swinton y Julianne Moore brillan en sus actuaciones junto a la estética de Almodovar que siempre nos deleita.


2. La virgen roja
   Tal vez sea la historia basada en hechos reales más impactante del festival. Hildegart Rodríguez deja atónita a la España de comienzos del siglo XX con su intelecto e ideas vanguardistas. Destacan las actuaciones de Najwa Nimri y Alba Planas.


3. Emilia Pérez
   La aclamada película de Jacques Audiard, que ya triunfó previamente en el Festival de Cannes, llega a la sección de Perlas. El elenco encabezado por Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gómez y Karla Sofía Gascón nos trae un sorprendente musical ambientado en el mundo del narcotráfico de México.


4. Parthenope
   La joven Parthenope conquista con su belleza por donde pisa. Si con anterioridad ya nos había cautivado «Fue la mano de dios», Paolo Sorrentino vuelve al Zinemaldi con una pintoresca Italia de la que tanto disfrutamos.


5. Marco
   Eduard Fernandez interpreta a Enric Marco, un supuesto superviviente de un campo de concentración nazi que con afán de protagonismo, hace todo lo posible por preservar y difundir la memoría histórica de lo ocurrido. Tras 18 años de intenso trabajo, Jon Garaño y Aitor Arregi nos presentan este sorprendente relato basado en hechos reales.
