Hello everyone!

I hope you enjoyed my first post! I am back to you with more stories. This time I would like to tell you about my last trip abroad.

I had always wanted to visit Scotland since I started learning English many years ago. Above all, the idea of walking through the old and mysterious streets of Edinburgh was long time ago on my mind. So, what better than arranging a reencounter with some old friends in the capital of Scotland!

After living 7 days in Edinburgh, I rate the experience very positively. Edinburgh is a charming city and no doubt so many writers got inspired by it throughout the history. The city has got a special ambience which will soon captivate you. This atmosphere is not only made of its beautiful architecture and streets, but also by its residents. I already had the reference of the scottish people I had met in my city, but it really attracted my attention their general friendliness. People in the street who smile at you or the kindness in shops and pubs. It’s a mixture of little details, which basicallly makes you want to stay there for a longer period of time.

I would like to give you some tips about the city and maybe you feel like packing your suitcase later:

• It is the ideal city for those who like autumn and its colours. Besides, if you are travelling during Halloween, as I did, you will be able to see intensified this dark and mysterious side of the city.
• For going shopping you can find different brands in Princes street, one of the main streets of the city. Nearby, you can find more streets with more shops and pubs where to eat or drink something. More plans in the area: go for a walk in Princes street gardens staring at the castle while sunset, go up to the top of Scott monument or enjoy the sights from Calton hill.
• For the Harry Potter fans…this is your city! the cafes where J.K. Rowling used to write the books, the spots which she got inspired by, not to mention all the souvenirs.
• My accomodation was located next to the Grassmarket, which is the square where public executions where carried out in old times. Nowadays, you can find more shops and some of the oldest pubs of the city, such as The white hart inn or The last drop. It is remarkable as well the vintage shop Armstrongs. 
• From the Grassmarket you can go up to the Royal Mile through Victoria street. This colourful street is said to be the most beautiful one in the city. It is divided in two levels and there you can find among others: cafes, bookshops, antique shops and tailoring shops with the typical tweed.
• The Royal Mile, which begins at the castle and goes till the Holyrood palace,  is one of the essentials. Full of pubs, souvenir shops, bagpipers, tons of sweet fudge and of course you can not miss the enigmatic alleys called ‘closes’. My favourite one the White horse close.
• Although it seems strange at first sight, it is advisable to visit one of the old graveyards, such as Greyfriars. Generally, they are beautiful parks in the middle of the city where you can go for a walk.
• And if you have enough time, you can organise something more alternative like going for a walk to Union canal, Dean village or Arthur’s seat. Although these spots are near the city centre, they are the perfect place to escape from the noisy streets.

Espero que disfrutaseis la primera entrada del blog! Vuelvo a vosotros con más historias que contar. Esta vez me gustaría hablaros sobre mi último viaje al extranjero.

Había tenido ganas de visitar Escocia desde que empecé ya hace años a aprender inglés. Sobre todo hacía tiempo que me atraía la idea de recorrer las antiguas y misteriosas calles de Edimburgo. Por lo que, qué mejor que organizar un reencuentro con viejos amigos en la capital escocesa!

El balance de la experiencia tras haber vivido 7 días en Edimburgo es muy positivo. Edimburgo es una ciudad con mucho encanto y no es de extrañar que haya inspirado a tantos escritores a lo largo de la historia. La ciudad posee un ambiente especial que enseguida te envuelve. Este ambiente no solo lo componen su bonita arquitectura y sus calles, sino también sus habitantes. Ya tenía la referencia de los escoceses que había conocido en mi ciudad, pero me llamó muchísimo la atención su simpatía generalizada. Los desconocidos que te sonríen por la calle, o la amabilidad con la que te tratan en los pubs y las tiendas. Son un cúmulo de detalles que básicamente hacen que quieras quedarte a vivir una temporada.

Me gustaría daros algunos consejos sobre la ciudad y tal vez os den ganas de hacer la maleta:

• Es la ciudad ideal para aquellos a los que os guste el otoño y sus colores. Además, si viajáis durante la fechas de Halloween, como fue mi caso, podréis ver intensificado ese lado oscuro y misterioso de la ciudad.
• Para ir de compras podréis encontrar múltiples marcas en Princes street, una de las principales arterias de la ciudad. En las calles paralelas podéis encontrar más tiendas y pubs donde comer o tomar algo. Más planes junto a esta calle pueden ser: dar un paseo por Princes street gardens contemplando el castillo mientras anochece, subiros al Scott monument o disfrutar de las vistas de la ciudad desde Calton hill.
• Para los fans de Harry Potter…esta es vuestra ciudad! las cafeterías donde J.K. Rowling solía escribir los libros, los lugares en lo que se inspiró, por no hablar de todos los souvenirs.
• Mi alojamiento se situaba junto al Grassmarket, que es la plaza donde antiguamente se realizaban las ejecuciones públicas. Hoy en día, podéis encontrar más tiendas y algunos de los pubs más antiguos de la ciudad como The white hart inn o The last drop. También destaca la tienda de artículos vintage Armstrongs. 
• Desde Grassmarket podéis subir hasta la Royal Mile por una de las calles más particulares de la ciudad, llamada Victoria street. Se dice que esta colorida calle es una de las más hermosas de la ciudad. Se divide en dos niveles y en ella se pueden encontrar entre otros: cafeterías, librerías, tiendas de antigüedades y sastrerías con el típico tweed.
• La Royal Mile, que comienza en el castillo y finaliza en el Palacio de Holyrood, es uno de los imprescindibles. Llena de pubs, tiendas de souvenirs, gaiteros, toneladas del dulce fudge y por supuesto no dudéis en echar un vistazo a los misteriosos callejones llamados ‘Close’. Mi favorito el White horse close.
• Aunque pueda resultar extraño al principio, es recomendable visitar alguno de los antiguos cementerios de la ciudad como el de Greyfriars. Muchos de ellos son como parques en medio de la ciudad en los que poder pasear.
• Y si disponéis del tiempo, podéis organizar algún plan más alternativo como dar un paseo por las zonas del Union canal, Dean village o Arthur’s seat. Aunque estos lugares se encuentran junto al centro de la ciudad, son el lugar perfecto para desconectar del bullicio y ver algo completamente diferente.
